~ The Bi-Fin configuration is not a new concept, but rather a collaborative design that emerged from True North Surfboards and The Institute for Time Compression Studies. We consider our work to be a contribution to the evolution of surfboard design, and see ourselves in the tribal lineage of Bob Simmons, George Greenough, Otto Lilienthal, and intuitive knowledge, the lineage of influence is wide and varied. Thanks to all who pursue their passions no matter what.

~ The name of this particular wing configuration is known in aviation circles as a “Canard”. Credit for that name goes back to OttoLilienthal a German that influenced the Wright brothers.

~ Examples of the Canard ideas can be seen in the jib sail of sailboats, airplane wings, the fins of certain fast ocean fish, anti-cavitation windsurfing fins, Rusty’s C-5 fin configuration, just to name a few.

~ We have found that the Bi-Fin improves the way a single fin surfboard turns. It increases drive and acceleration by improving water attachment on the main fin by decreasing turbulence and cleaning up water flow. The leading fin relieves the pressure on the main fin that is caused by the initial slicing of the boundary layer of water.

~ Surfing seems to suffer from prolonged periods of stagnation stemming from the reluctance of surfers to get to know their equipment and a desire to imitate certain surfing styles. Learn to play other instruments, connect with the wave energy in your own way , shun the surf media’s opinion and do it yourself. Build your own equipment, fins ect. or collaborate with a shaper that you relate to. Open your mind to intuitive knowledge, acquire and apply ocean knowledge.
